Baku appeals to Iran’s state broadcaster over libelous reports
BAKU – The Azerbaijani embassy in Iran has appealed to the country’s broadcasting body over Sahar 2 TV channel’s reports defying Azerbaijan.
Ibrahim Gafarov, the aide to the Azerbaijani ambassador in Tehran, told the Baku-based ANS TV channel that the diplomatic mission has repeatedly issued protests to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, but its head has shunned meetings with Azerbaijani diplomats so far.
"This TV channel is airing libelous reports about Azerbaijan," Gafarov said. "This has to stop. You know, there is nothing independent in Iran. We have repeatedly stated that…radio stations and TV channels here are overseen by IRIB. We have sought a meeting with its chairman, but he declined it. But he is aware of what is going on."
