Egypt cell company severs ties with Karabakh firm after Baku’s protest
BAKU – Cellular operator Vodafone Egypt halted its cooperation with Karabakh Telecom, a company illegally operating in the Armenia-occupied Azerbaijani territories, after Baku’s protests.
After the fact was revealed, the Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt issued a protest to the country’s foreign ministry, held meetings with the ministry’s officials and demanded to stop the unlawful cooperation in roaming services, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry said quoting the diplomatic mission.
Following the Azerbaijani embassy’s appeal, the Egyptian foreign ministry formally announced that Vodafone Egypt had severed its ties with Karabakh Telecom.
Nagorno Karabakh is an Azerbaijani region occupied by Armenian forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. Years of OSCE-brokered peace talks have brought few tangible results.
