Major zoo to be built outside Baku
BAKU – A one-of-the-kind zoo will be built outside the Azerbaijani capital Baku, Ecology Minister Huseyn Bagirov has said. He said that cages will not be used at the zoo and walls will consist of natural landscapes.
Bagirov told a news conference Friday that 2.8 million manats (over $3.5 million) has been allocated to build the zoo encompassing 55 hectares, which will be located in a rural area 15 km away from Baku.
Construction will be carried out by a German-Turkish joint venture that won a relevant tender last year.
The minister said specialists from more than 70 countries have been drawn to the project.
