Turkish FM: Yerevan ‘looks like a backward village’ compared to Baku
ANKARA – Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said he was impressed with the appearance of Baku, saying that compared to the Azerbaijani capital the Armenian capital Yerevan "looks like a backward village".
Davutoglu said on a program aired by the state-run TV channel TRT that part of revenue from Azerbaijan’s rampant economic growth is spent on providing amenities in Baku.
"Every time I go to Baku I feel proud of how beautiful it has become," he said.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades.
