Baku-Aberdeen flights suspended over volcanic ash cloud

BAKU – Azerbaijani state airline AzAL suspended Baku-Aberdeen flights on Tuesday due to the volcanic activity on the territory of Iceland and the clouds of volcanic ash, the company said in a statement.

The Baku-Aberdeen flights had begun on May 22 and were to be carried out every Tuesday and Sunday.

The Grimsvotn volcano erupted in southern Iceland on Saturday, prompting the country’s government to suspend domestic flights.

The eruption by Iceland's most active volcano has shut down the island's main airport and threatened to cause more flight disruptions over Europe.
