Another Azeri soldier killed in ceasefire breach
BAKU – An Azerbaijani soldier was killed on Sunday morning in a ceasefire violation by Armenian armed forces on the contact line of the two countries’ troops, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said.
Farid Farajov died after being shot in the throat by an Armenian sniper in Azerbaijan’s frontline Terter region, in another such incident in the past days.
On Friday, another Azerbaijani soldier, Rahman Mammadov, was shot dead by a sniper in Azerbaijan’s frontline Aghdam region.
Armenian troops opened fire at the Azerbaijani positions five times on Sunday, using machine and submachine guns, according to the Defense Ministry.
The two countries have been locked in conflict for two decades. 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory has been under Armenian occupation since the two South Caucasus republics signed a precarious cease-fire in 1994 following a lengthy war. OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
