Clinton vows further US effort on Karabakh resolution

BAKU – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the United States, as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, will continue doing everything in its power to reach an agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Hosting Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian in Washington on Thursday, Clinton said that the U.S. supports a strictly peaceful solution of the long-standing dispute.

Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a brutal war that ended with the signing of a fragile cease-fire in 1994. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since then. Peace talks brokered by US, Russian and French diplomats through the OSCE Minsk Group have been largely fruitless so far.
