Azeri opposition activist detained - report

BAKU – Azerbaijani opposition activist Elnur Majidli has been detained over the April 2 antigovernment protest, his father told Radio Liberty.

Arzuman Majidli said that his son, deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Youth Committee, has been ordered held in detention for 48 hours.

"My son is not a criminal, and his detention is unlawful," he said.

13 people were detained for two months pending trial following the unauthorized rally during which protesters clashed with riot police. The protest was organized by the Public Chamber, the umbrella opposition group comprising APFP.
