Switzerland responds to Azerbaijan’s protest
GENEVA – Switzerland’s foreign ministry has responded to Azerbaijan’s protest issued to the country after print materials distorting the country’s territorial integrity were displayed on Armenia’s stands at last week’s international book and media fair in Geneva.
In its reply to the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, it said those running the stands were responsible for the content displayed, and any interference was possible only in case Switzerland’s laws had been violated. The Swiss government said it had informed organizers of Baku’s concerns, and the latter had done their utmost to convince the Armenian representatives to address the matter.
The ministry’s note said the distorted print materials concerning Nagorno Karabakh and other Armenia-occupied regions of Azerbaijan run counter to the Swiss stance. The ministry also noted that on its website it had advised Swiss citizens not to visit these regions.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory since a war in the early 1990s.
