BAKU – The police on Tuesday searched the head office of Musavat, an Azerbaijani major opposition party, as part of the investigation into the April 2 unauthorized rally held in Baku during which dozens were detained in clashes with law enforcers.

Musavat deputy chairman Gulagha Aslanly said the employees of Baku’s police department and the city’s prosecutor’s office sought documents pertaining to the Public Chamber umbrella opposition group, which includes Musavat, and the party’s executives agreed to provide them.

The Public Chamber, which was established following the November 2010 parliamentary elections, also comprises Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Azerbaijan National Independence Party and Classical Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, as well as a number of NGOs. The opposition group has lately held several unsanctioned antigovernment protests.
