Azeri speaker to attend TurkPA meeting
BAKU – An Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker Ogtay Asadov will participate in the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking states (TurkPA) to be held on April 27-29 in Astana, Kazakhstan, parliament spokesman Akif Tavakkuloglu told journalists on Monday.
Heads of parliaments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey will sign a protocol on amendments to the Istanbul agreement, which was signed at the founding of this organization, as well as a protocol on cooperation among the Turkic parliaments’ libraries. The delegation will also discuss and adopt the emblem and flag of TurkPA. The Astana Declaration will be adopted at the event.
Tavakkuloglu said that during the visit Asadov will meet with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan parliamentary chambers’ chairmen and heads of the Turkic states’ delegations. "The meetings will discuss prospects for cooperation between the two countries and development of the TurkPA activities," he said.
Head of the Kazakhstan parliament will assume presidency of TurkPA during the session.
President Nazarbayev initiated the creation of TurkPA at the eight summit of the heads of Turkic-speaking countries in Antalya in November 2006.
TurkPA was established in Baku in 2009. The secretariat of the organization is also in Azeri capital. TurkPA includes Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
