Armenian troops launch another drill on frontline

21 April 2011 09:17 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – Armenian armed forces have launched military exercises in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, another such drill staged in the past week, a report says.

The exercises began early on Wednesday morning in the frontline Terter region and Aghdara, the Baku-based ANS TV channel reported. The sounds of shooting are clearly heard in Azerbaijan’s Goranboy region located on the contact line of the two countries’ troops, eyewitnesses said.

Last Thursday, Armenia’s troops reportedly held large-scale exercises in the occupied part of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam region, using artillery.

On Wednesday, Azerbaijan’s armed forces also held military exercises on the frontline. Mostly artillery was used during the drills, which took place in the Azerbaijani-controlled part of Terter region, ANS TV channel said.

The two countries fought a brutal war that ended with the signing of a fragile cease-fire in 1994. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since then.
