European Parliament chief urges to avoid new Karabakh war
BAKU – European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek has said warfare should be avoided in the zone of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, Novosti Armenii news agency reported.
Buzek told a briefing with Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in Brussels that the European Parliament was concerned over the impact of the Karabakh conflict on the region.
He said the EP was ready to assist in ensuring security in the conflict zone.
"We will do everything in our power to provide security of the region," Buzek added.
A fragile ceasefire has been in place between Azerbaijan and Armenia since a brutal war in the early 1990s. OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far and deadly clashes on the frontline continue.
