OSCE chief to begin South Caucasus visit in Azerbaijan

BAKU – The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis will begin his visit to the South Caucasus region in Azerbaijan on Sunday.

He is due to meet government leaders and representatives of political parties to discuss OSCE work in the region and the Lithuanian chairmanship’s priorities for 2011, according to the OSCE website.

Azubalis will be in Baku on March 13-14, visit the Georgian capital Tbilisi on March 15-16, and then pay a visit to Yerevan on March 17-18.

Azubalis plans to meet the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the prime minister of Georgia, ministers of foreign affairs, political leadership and civil society representatives of the three countries.

Progress towards resolution of protracted conflicts in the OSCE region is a key priority of Lithuania's OSCE chairmanship. The chairperson will discuss the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh and co-operation with the OSCE, in particular with its offices in Yerevan and Baku, to support reforms.
