Azerbaijan, Albania lift visas for diplomats

BAKU – Azerbaijan and Albania have signed an agreement to cancel visa requirements for persons holding diplomatic and service passports.

The agreement was signed following talks between Albania’s Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto and his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on Thursday.

Albania expressed interest in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields, including energy, tourism and trade, Mammadyarov told a briefing after the meeting.

The parties also agreed to hold a meeting of the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation soon.

"We are at a new stage of bilateral relations and we intend to develop them," Haxhinasto said.

President Ilham Aliyev received the Albanian minister and his accompanying delegation on the same day, according to the Azerbaijani president’s website.

President Aliyev said Azerbaijan is interested in developing its relations with Albania. Aliyev recalled his meetings with Albania's top officials, saying there is friendship between him and the Albanian president. The Azerbaijani leader highlighted the importance of establishing firm relations and the fact that both countries support each other.
