OSCE-backed debate of Azeri officials, parties postponed
BAKU – OSCE-supported discussions between Azerbaijani officials and representatives of political parties, scheduled for March 7-8, have been postponed.
Rashad Huseynov, the spokesman for the OSCE Office in Baku, told AssA-Irada that the postponement was due to "the emergence of some problems concerning participation".
The new date of the roundtable, which aims to discuss the country’s political party legislation, will be announced shortly.
The objective of the event, which was expected to bring together senior officials of the Presidential Administration and the Parliament as well as representatives of 18 political parties, is to assist the Azerbaijani government with the improvement of political party regulation. The participants will discuss possible improvements to the 1992 Law on Political Parties that would reflect international practice.
