Azerbaijan, UAE agree on defense industry co-op
BAKU – Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates have reached agreement on defense industry cooperation on the sidelines of the IDEX defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi, according to Azerbaijani Defense Industry Minister Yaver Jamalov, who is attending the event.
"Under the agreement, experts of the UAE armed forces will visit Azerbaijan, while an Azerbaijani delegation will visit the UAE," Jamalov said. "During the familiarization visits we will define areas of cooperation."
On the sidelines of the exhibition, Azerbaijan earlier signed agreements with Turkey on joint production of long-range missiles and on production of weaponry including grenade launchers and MP5 submachine guns at Azerbaijani plants. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense Industry also reached agreement on the sale of munitions for firearms and artillery weapons to Bangladesh’s NL Enterprise.
The minister also said Azerbaijan will increase the number of defense industry goods it produces to 480 from 413 in the near future.
Azerbaijan is displaying defense industry goods of 71 types at IDEX, one of the largest defense exhibitions in the world.
