Azerbaijan to sell munitions to Bangladesh, assemble AK rifles
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense Industry reached agreement with Bangladesh’s NL Enterprise on Tuesday on the sale of ammunition to Bangladesh.
Under a letter of intent signed in Abu Dhabi, UAE on the sidelines of IDEX, one of the largest defense exhibitions in the world, Azerbaijan will export munitions of various calibers for firearms and artillery weapons to the Bangladeshi company.
Also, AK-74M submachine guns will begin to be assembled in Azerbaijan late this year under a Russian license, Azerbaijani Defense Industry Minister’s aide Azad Mammadov told Russia’s Arms-Tass news agency.
Under a deal signed with Russia’s Izhmash concern, the submachine guns will be initially made using spare parts delivered from the neighboring country. However, Azerbaijan will launch domestic production of some spare parts in the future. According to the 10-year agreement, 12,000 rifles will be made annually. The rifles will be supplied only to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense Industry and other power-wielding agencies.
According to Izhmash representatives, besides Azerbaijan, an agreement on licensed production of AK guns has been signed only with Venezuela.
