US envoy says terror threat ‘serious’
BAKU – The alleged threat of terror attacks in Azerbaijan was high on the agenda of President Ilham Aliyev’s meeting with newly appointed US Ambassador Matthew Bryza, the ambassador told a news briefing Thursday.
The US, British and Israeli governments have lately warned their citizens over a terror threat in Azerbaijan. The State Department issued another such warning last week, saying that based on "terrorist threat information", the likelihood of such attacks remains high. It did not cite the gist of the threat or who could pose it.
Bryza said the warnings should be seen as an alarm signal.
"We are not disclosing the source that cited the possibility of terror attacks. But if we issued a second warning about a terror threat, this means that the matter is very serious," Bryza said, praising the assistance provided in this regard by the Azerbaijani government.
