Lithuanian parliament to table resolution on Karabakh conflict

BAKU – A resolution on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh has been drafted in the Lithuanian Seim (parliament) and signed by 50 lawmakers, its chairperson Irena Degutienes said in Baku on Tuesday.

Degutienes told reporters that the resolution will be put on discussion in the 140-seat legislature soon. She did not give details on the premise of the resolution.

"I hope that this document will be adopted. We currently chair the OSCE [which is brokering talks on settling the Karabakh conflict], and, as always, Lithuania supports the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Our country’s stance remains unchanged."

Degutienes also said Lithuania is interested in expanding its relations with Azerbaijan.

The Seim chair is due to hold meetings with a number of officials during her four-day visit to Azerbaijan.

Degutienes is accompanied by Lithuanian businessmen. Baku will host a joint business forum on Wednesday to be joined by the Lithuanian delegation.
