Clinton: It is time for progress on Karabakh

BAKU – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said it is time to achieve progress in settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry told AssA-Irada.

Clinton’s comments came during a closed-door meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov held on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich on Sunday.

Mammadyarov informed Secretary Clinton about Baku’s stance on the Karabakh conflict.

Clinton thanked Azerbaijan for its contribution to anti-terror operations in Afghanistan.

The parties also discussed bilateral relations, including energy cooperation, as well as regional and Middle East developments.

The Karabakh dispute was also discussed during Clinton’s meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Munich, along with the process of normalizing Turkey-Armenia relations.

Sargsyan pointed to the vigorous US effort aimed at resolving the Karabakh issue and promoting peace and security in the volatile region, Armenian media reported. He thanked Washington for the clear-cut and balanced position on the issue it expressed during the OSCE summit held in Astana in early December.

Clinton pledged the U.S. would support further efforts to achieve reconciliation between Turkey and Armenia.
