Analyst urges tough response to Iran’s anti-Azeri moves

BAKU – Azerbaijan should respond to Iran’s actions against it, otherwise, they could pose a threat to the country, an Azerbaijani analyst has said.

Mubariz Ahmadoghlu, the head of the Center for Political Innovation and Technology, told a news conference on Thursday that Azerbaijan has ample resources to counter Iran.

"On such issues, it is important to use the potential of the diaspora to press on Iran," he said.

The neighboring country’s interference with Azerbaijan’s affairs and Iranian Sahar TV channel’s anti-Azerbaijani broadcasts have raised concern in the country. Azerbaijanis have held protests against Iran’s policy in Baku and Istanbul this week.

Ahmadoghlu said further that despite being an Islamic republic, Iran "is failing to observe any religious norm" in its relations with Azerbaijan by providing all-rounded support to Armenia, Azerbaijan’s long-time foe.

Iran and Armenia agreed in late January to build a pipeline to carry Iranian oil products to the neighboring country. The pipeline will allow Armenia to meet half of its demand for oil derivatives.
