BAKU – About 50 unsafe newly constructed residential buildings were found in Baku in 2010, an Emergencies Ministry official said.

Khalid Najafov, head of the ministry’s body overseeing construction operations, told the press Friday that a number of residential buildings have been commissioned in the Azerbaijani capital without a proper expertise. The ministry’s check-ups have revealed violations of safety requirements as well as major shortfalls in the building structures.

According to Najafov, residents of the buildings that need reinforcement will be temporarily relocated, while the buildings that completely fail to comply with safety regulations will be demolished.
