Azerbaijan gets observer status in African Union
CAIRO – Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev has submitted his credentials to the African Union Chairman Jean Ping at the Union’s headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
With Abdullayev’s appointment as Azerbaijan’s permanent representative at the Union, the South Caucasus republic has been granted an observer status at the African institution.
Abdullayev said Azerbaijan has consistently supported African countries in the United Nations and other international organizations and adhered to a similar position on ways of countering global threats facing mankind. He said that as an observer in the African union, the country was keen on following more closely the challenges facing the African nations, contributing to the solution of these problems and expanding its comprehensive relations with the union’s member states.
