Azeri soldier killed in ceasefire breach

BAKU – A soldier of the Azerbaijani armed forces was killed on Monday after Armenian troops opened fire in Azerbaijan’s Terter district located on the frontline, the Defense Ministry said.

Mammad Azadaliyev, 20, was drafted for military service in October 2010.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory since a war in the early 1990s. The ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but years of OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless, and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
