Reports on US ‘spy’ passing via Azerbaijan dismissed

BAKU – Azerbaijan’s State Border Service has dismissed media reports about the entry of an ethnic Armenian US citizen, who is accused of spying, into Iran through the Azerbaijani territory.

"Recently the media outlets of our country and other states have circulated contradictory and confusing reports saying that the person suspected of spying, Hall Talayan (Falayan, Falalan), aged 34 or 55, a US citizen of Armenian origin, was arrested on January 7 on the Iranian checkpoint Nordust or in Julfa," the border service said.

The statement said that the media reports could create an erroneous impression about the entry of the US citizen into Iran through Azerbaijan, or his detention on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.
