PACE to mull re-launching body on Karabakh

STRASBOURG – The subcommittee on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will resume its work under an order from the assembly’s president, Mevlut Cavusoglu, a member of Azerbaijan’s PACE delegation has said.

Sabir Hajiyev told the Baku-based ANS TV channel that preparations have been completed to discuss the issue during PACE’s January session.

Hajiyev said that after the subcommittee has resumed its activity, the chairmanship issue will be tabled, and further discussions will be participated in by a larger number of Azerbaijani lawmakers.

The subcommittee on the Karabakh conflict was established in 2005 according to a PACE resolution, but its activity was suspended in 2009 due to the death of the subcommittee chairman Lord Russell Johnston.
