Azeri president pardons inmates
BAKU – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on Wednesday to pardon a number of prisoners.
The order pardoned 71 people sentenced to imprisonment, 15 persons sentenced to limitation of their freedom, five who faced penalties, and one woman who had received a suspended sentence.
Four of those pardoned are citizens of Bangladesh and two are nationals of Pakistan.
Over 5,000 people have been released under 47 presidential pardon decrees in the country since 1994. 15 of the decrees were signed by President Ilham Aliyev, while 32 had been previously enacted by Azerbaijan’s late national leader, former President Heydar Aliyev.
