Yerevan ready for presidential talks
Armenia is ready for a meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Bucharest in early April, its foreign minister says.
Vardan Oskanian told a local TV channel that the new Armenian president Serzh Sarkisian had agreed to meet Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the Romanian capital.
He added, however, that "nothing is for certain yet although Azerbaijan is giving us hope".
Oskanian said president-elect Sarkisian's first meeting with the Azerbaijani leader was aimed at familiarization.
He said the resolution passed at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday on Azerbaijan's initiative should be included in the agenda of peace talks.
"If Ilham Aliyev stands firm on the provisions of the document, Serzh Sarkisian should state that there is nothing left to talk about," the aggressor country's official said. "Then we will reconsider our approach to the issue (Garabagh problem) and ponder the security of Garabagh instead of wasting time."
The resolution passed at the UN cited the need for "a swift, full and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian forces" from the occupied Azerbaijani land.
