Two Azeri sites 'vital' to US security - WikiLeaks

BAKU – Another confidential cable released by the WikiLeaks website contains a list of key infrastructure sites around the world that could pose a serious threat to the United States’ security if they come under a terrorist attack. The list of strategic facilities includes the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline pumping Azerbaijani crude to world markets and Sangachal, a major oil terminal in Azerbaijan.

The introductory part of the document, drawn up by the US State Department in 2009, warned that losing the cited resources сould pose a threat to the economy, public health and security in the U.S.

The newly released diplomatic cable is one of the most explosive yet out of many leaked by the whistle-blowing website that have caused anger around the world.

The list includes facilities ranging from extractive industries to medicine producers. For instance, it cites a Danish insulin producer and an Australian company making antidotes against snake poison.
