WikiLeaks reports ‘provocative’ - Azeri top official

BAKU – A senior Azerbaijani official has said the WikiLeaks reports that released confidential US cables are "provocative" and aim to set world leaders against each other.

"What these attempts are aimed at will be clear in the future," Ali Hasanov, head of the Presidential Administration socio-political department, told the press Thursday.

The reports, released Sunday on the website of WikiLeaks, an organization revealing secret documents, contains about 250,000 secret letters sent by US diplomats to the State Department. The cables release alleged details of the Obama administration’s correspondence concerning crises and conflicts, US diplomats’ terse remarks about Islamic and European leaders, and personal conversations between numerous countries’ leaders and US officials. The cables include Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s controversial quotes allegedly made during a meeting in February with US Undersecretary of State William Burns.

The Azerbaijani president's press service said that the views and comments posted on the WikiLeaks website "don't reflect the reality and are absolutely unreasonable". It said in a statement that this content is "an outright provocation" aiming to undermine Azerbaijan’s relations with neighboring countries.
