UN panel passes Azeri draft resolution on missing persons
BAKU – A United Nations committee on Thursday passed a draft resolution on missing persons submitted by Azerbaijan, according to the country’s representation at the UN.
71 countries co-signed the resolution, tabled at a meeting of the UN Committee on Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Issues.
A final approval of the resolution is expected at a meeting of the UN General Assembly due in December.
Up to a million Azerbaijanis were driven out of their homes in an armed conflict in the early 1990s that flared up due to Armenia's territorial claims. Over 4,000 people went missing and 753 remain in Armenian captivity.
