GUAM foreign ministers to meet in Astana
ASTANA – The next meeting of the GUAM Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Astana on the sidelines of the OSCE ministerial meeting on Dec. 1-2, the organization's secretariat said.
The agenda of the GUAM foreign ministers meeting will be prepared at a meeting of the GUAM National Coordinators Council on Nov. 23-24 in Kiev.
The sides will discuss a wide range of cooperation issues in the GUAM and GUAM + format, focusing on cooperation in transport and tourism.
GUAM was established by post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. Uzbekistan joined the organization in 1999 and left four years later. A decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization and give it a new name, the "Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM," at the organization's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
