Russian presidential aide: ‘Strategic partnership with Azerbaijan a guarantee for stability in Caucasus’

MOSCOW – The strategic partnership between Russia and Azerbaijan is a guarantee for stability in such a difficult and important region like the Caucasus, said head of the Russian Presidential Administration’s Department for Interregional and Cultural Relations Sergey Vinokurov in Baku on Thursday.

He stressed deeply-rooted historical Russia-Azerbaijan relations are multifaceted, adding "much depends on these relations in the South Caucasus".

Vinokurov said: "Our relations are a real indicator of the strategic partnership".

He underlined "Azerbaijani and Russian presidents set themselves a task to make trade turnover between the two countries more than $2 billion", adding "there is every opportunity to achieve this".

Vinokurov is taking part in a roundtable meeting on the "Role of Parliament in the development of civil society", organized by the Institute for Eurasian Studies.
