Aliyev, Sargsyan to hold Russian-brokered talks – report
MOSCOW – Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan are due to visit Russia at the invitation of their counterpart Dmitry Medvedev next week for a trilateral meeting, Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper quoted the Kremlin as saying.
The three leaders are expected to discuss settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Karabakh in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan on Wednesday.
The last such trilateral meeting was held in St. Petersburg on June 17.
Russia co-chairs the OSCE Minsk Group brokering the peace process, along with the United States and France.
The two South Caucasus republics signed a precarious ceasefire in 1994 after fighting a lengthy war over the mountainous region, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. However, Armenia still occupies 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory in defiance of international law.
