Baku moves to allay Turkish concerns over visa changes
BAKU – Turkish media claimed that simplified visa regulations with Azerbaijan have been cancelled.
The reports said that whereas Turkish citizens had been previously required merely to obtain a visa at the airport upon arrival, following the decree enacted by President Ilham Aliyev last Friday, they now must contact Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
But the Azerbaijani ministry said there were no grounds for concern. Elkhan Polukhov, its spokesman, said the presidential decree on changes to visa requirements does not refer to Turkish citizens. Polukhov added that given the concerns among people in the neighboring country, the Azerbaijani embassy in Ankara will soon issue a statement on the matter.
