PACE election observers due next week
BAKU – A five-people-strong election observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will visit Baku October 19-21, CE Ambassador to Azerbaijan Veronika Kotek said.
Azerbaijan will hold parliamentary elections on November 7.
Kotek told the press Friday that the preliminary mission will represent five political blocs. The observers are due to meet officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations, hopefuls and their proxies.
According to Kotek, the mission will not issue an intermediate report on its observations and will only hold a news conference in conclusion of its visit.
A PACE mission consisting of about 30 observers that will monitor the elections proper is due to arrive in Azerbaijan a few days before election day. They will hold meetings in the same format and observe the polling both in the capital Baku and in the country’s regions, Kotek said.
Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan by the majority of votes in 125 constituencies.
