Opposition leader slammed over signing deal with Armenian bloc

BAKU – Azerbaijan’s ruling party has condemned opposition Musavat party leader’s signing an agreement with an Armenian political bloc.

"Isa Gambar’s signing an agreement with the Armenians contradicts Azerbaijan’s state and national interests," Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP) deputy chairman Ali Ahmadov told a press conference Wednesday.

The Musavat chairman has recently co-signed a statement on cooperation with the Armenian Nationwide Movement’s board chairman Aram Manukyan and Georgian Republican Party leader David Usupashvili in Potsdam, Germany.

Ahmadov said the Armenian Nationwide Movement is one of the think-tanks shaping the policy of occupying Azerbaijani territory and these territories were invaded when they were in power.

"Signing an agreement with them is aimed directly against Azerbaijan," the YAP deputy chairman said.

According to him, the signing runs counter to Musavat party’s own ideology.

"I do believe that sanely-minded people within Musavat will protest at Isa Gambar’s move."

Gambar has told the press that the statement he co-signed in Germany does not defy Azerbaijan’s interests in any way.
