WEF downgrades Azerbaijan on gender equality

13 October 2010 01:25 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – The World Economic Forum (WEF) has rated Azerbaijan 100th on gender equality in 2010, 11 points below last year’s ranking.

The country was granted higher ratings in the past years. For instance, in 2007 it ranked 59th.

Iceland has led the way on gender equality for a second year in a row. It is followed by Norway and Finland.

As for Azerbaijan’s neighbors in the South Caucasus region, Armenia ranked 84th, while Georgia 88th.

WEF’s rankings are based on four categories: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, political empowerment and health.
