Azeri, Armenian reps at PACE hold further talks
STRASBOURG – The delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia held a second meeting on the sidelines of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) session on Thursday.
The meeting, held at the initiative of PACE head Mevlut Cavusoglu, was attended by the head of Azerbaijani delegation Samad Seyidov and a member of the delegation Sabir Hajiyev. Armenia was represented by the head of its delegation David Harutyunyan and his deputy.
The first meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian lawmakers took place on Tuesday, and a decision was further passed to convene again Thursday.
Azerbaijani delegation head Seyidov said constructive talks were achieved with the Armenian side.
"Our main goal is for the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict not to go off the agenda, to keep it permanently on the Council of Europe agenda, and, along with the Karabakh problem, to discuss related humanitarian issues."
Seyidov said the parties had decided to continue holding such meetings. He said the Azerbaijani and Armenian representatives will most likely meet during the next sitting of a PACE bureau.
PACE head Cavusoglu told a bureau meeting Friday that resuming the work of the ad hoc committee on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was not tabled during the latest discussions between the Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations. He said it was merely decided that the issue will be mulled at the December 18 meeting of the PACE bureau in Paris.
