Turkey’s Davutoglu: No need for another flag row with Azerbaijan
ANKARA – Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has dismissed media reports about a recent flag row between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Some Turkish reports circulated quoting Azerbaijani media on Wesnesday that Turkish flags have been removed from public transport in Azerbaijan.
"We hold Azerbaijan and Turkey’s flags in respect equally," Davutoglu said. "No crisis has emerged over the issue, and there is no need to cause another crisis, either."
In October 2009, a row between Turkey and Azerbaijan emerged when Azerbaijani flags were banned at the Turkey-Armenia soccer match played in Bursa. Further, the Turkish flag was removed from the area around a monument honoring Turkish soldiers at a cemetery in Baku, though it was hoisted anew later, easing tension between the two countries.
