Azeri lawmaker meets Czech Senate official

BAKU – Chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament’s committee on international relations and inter-parliamentary ties Samad Seyidov met Tuesday with visiting Chairman of the Czech Republic Senate’s committee on European Union affairs Ludek Sefzig.

Sefzig praised Azerbaijan’s rapid development. He also noted that Azerbaijan is an important country for the Czech Republic.

The Czech official said the aim of the visit is to exchange views on expanding relations both bilaterally and within the Eastern Partnership program.

"Azerbaijan has rich natural resources. But we don’t want our relations to be based on the oil factor alone. We are keen on the development of strong friendly ties with Azerbaijan."

Referring to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, Sefzig said: "We understand Azerbaijan’s sore problem. We are for a peaceful resolution of every conflict within international legal norms and territorial integrity of countries."

Seyidov stressed that Baku attaches particular importance to the development of relations with the Czech Republic.
