Islamic states condemn Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan (UPDATED)
NEW YORK – The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) members have condemned Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan, urging to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders.
The statement was made by the OIC foreign ministers in a document passed at the end of their annual meeting in New York last Friday.
Participants also discussed demographic changes, the destruction of cultural monuments and shrines in Karabakh and other occupied Azerbaijani territories and voiced concern over violations of property rights.
The Organization of Islamic Conference, established in 1969 at a conference in Morocco, comprises 57 countries. The OIC is the world’s second largest group for the number of members represented and has an observer status in the United Nations.
Armenia has had territorial claims against Azerbaijan, a South Caucasus neighbor, since the early 1990s. The country’s armed forces have been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, defying international law.
