Maiden Tower attic shut after suicide
BAKU – The attic of the Maiden Tower, a historical symbol of Baku dating back to the ancient times, has been shut for visitors.
Security guards of the tower, located downtown Baku, told ANS TV channel that following a suicide committed last week, a security service was placed at the top floor, and visitors may now tour only the remaining floors of the historic monument.
Furthermore, the attic of the Maiden Tower is to be covered with transparent coating over safety concerns. Only after that will visitors be able to come there and enjoy the spectacular view of the Azerbaijani capital.
The latest suicide was committed at the Maiden Tower last Saturday. The woman aged 25-26, who jumped off the 28-meter structure, died two hours later.
15 people have killed themselves by jumping off the tower in the past three to four years.
