18 September 2010 11:41 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – A powerful explosion hit a gas-filling station in Azerbaijan’s southern Lankaran region in the early hours on Friday, severely injuring three people.

The blast was caused by a fire that broke out after a fuel tank exploded due to negligence while it was being filled with liquefied gas from a truck.

The three employees of the gas station were hospitalized with burns, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

The blast split the truck into pieces, which damaged nearby homes.

The blaze was extinguished three hours after the explosion.
