Iranian FM calls for Karabakh settlement with ‘strong political will’
YEREVAN – The Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved in a spirit of goodwill with strong political will and a serious approach, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said at a press conference with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian, the FARS news agency reported.
Mottaki noted that Iran stands for restoration of a peace in the region.
According to Mottaki, Iran holds transparent attitude in regard to Azerbaijan and Armenia and is ready to contribute to Baku and Yerevan in resolution of the conflict.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a cease-fire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven adjacent Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law.
