Minsk Group co-chairs to partake in frontline monitoring
BAKU – The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering settlement to the Upper (Nagorno) Karabakh conflict will take part in an OSCE monitoring to be held Wednesday on the contact line of the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in Azerbaijan’s Terter region, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said.
The co-chairs are expected to cross over to the Armenian side of the frontline afterwards.
The Karabakh conflict emerged during the last few years of the Soviet Union. 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory has been under Armenian occupation since the two South Caucasus republics signed a precarious cease-fire in 1994 following a lengthy war. The mediating Minsk Group is co-chaired by the United States, Russia and France.
