India vows support to Azerbaijan, keen on investing in oil and gas

NEW-DELHI – A senior Indian official has vowed support for territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and expressed his country’s interest to invest in Azeri oil and gas sector, APA reported.

Foreign Ministry official Ajay Bisaria told a group of journalists from CIS countries that talks were underway between Indian State Oil Company and Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR.

Bisaria also said Indian construction companies were keen on participating in the construction of oil and gas pipelines.

These issues reportedly will be high on agenda during the Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister’s expected visit to India.

While commenting on the question about India’s voting against the document on Nagorno Karabakh conflict at the UN General Assembly in 2008, Indian official said his country "respects the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and this position will not change".

He said Delhi backs efforts of the mediating OSCE Minsk Group to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
