Azerbaijan appeals to UN over Armenia’s military aggression
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan sent a letter to the Secretary General and the General Assembly of the UN concerning Armenia’s military violence against Azerbaijan and its occupied territories, APA’s Washington DC correspondent was told at the UN information centre.
The letter, signed by Charge d’affaires a.i. Tofig Musayev, describes a recent violence by Armenian troops on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.
As a matter of fact, the letter talks about a following incident.
According to Armenian’s Defense Ministry and media reports, "28 July 2010 an incident involving the use of firearms and resulting in casualties took place in one of the military units of the armed forces of Armenia deployed in the occupied Khojavand district of Azerbaijan. It has been reported that a senior lieutenant and five conscripts, all citizens and residents of Armenia who were sent to serve in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as part of their military service, were killed as a result of violence and exchange of fire between Armenian militaries", the letter says.
Musayev also raised a similar case dated July 16.
Saying that these two incidents are just a drop in the sea, Musayev said that they "demonstrate clearly that, despite attempts of official Yerevan to disguise the direct involvement of the armed forces of Armenia in the military hostilities against Azerbaijan and the presence of these forces within the latter’s occupied areas, Armenia exercises in practice effective military control of these territories."
The Azerbaijani mission recalls that the UN itself and many other international bodies, such as European Parliament, have proclaimed Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and this is a major reason to amplify the illegality of Armenia’s activities.
Musayev also says that the fact of Armenian occupation is recognized by the whole world.
The UN information centre said that the letter was already accepted by the UN Secretary-General office and added to the GA next session agenda as a document for consideration.
The letter was also circulated among the UN national delegations.
