BAKU – Head of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Executive Committee’s department for elections is paying a short visit to Azerbaijan to study the situation in the country ahead of the parliamentary elections due in fall.

While in Baku, Yevgeni Sloboda is expected to examine the changes made to Azerbaijan’s Election Code and hold relevant meetings.

CIS leaders meeting in Minsk on Tuesday decided that the observation mission to monitor the November 7 vote will be headed by CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The November poll will be tracked both by short-term and long-term observers. The headquarters of the long-term observers will begin operating in Baku in early October, while short-term observers will arrive in the country on the eve of the elections.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority of votes system in 125 constituencies.
